How to Play Geirle
Geirle is a quick daily Welsh word challenge designed for regular practice.
Goal
Find the target Welsh word in as few guesses as possible.
How a round works
- Enter a valid Welsh word guess.
- Review tile feedback after each guess.
- Use the feedback to narrow the next guess.
Reading feedback
- Correct letter in correct position: keep it fixed in future guesses.
- Correct letter in wrong position: use it elsewhere.
- Soft mutation match: the tile can indicate a related mutated letter pair (for example
b ↔ p). - Accent mismatch: the base letter is correct, but the accent variant is not.
- Letter not in word: avoid it unless the word contains duplicated letters.
Rules
- Guess a 5-letter Welsh word in up to 6 attempts.
- Every guess must be a valid Welsh word. Press Enter to submit.
- Welsh digraphs (
ch,dd,ff,ng,ll,ph,rh,th) count as one letter in the grid and keyboard. - Hold (or long-press) a vowel key to choose an accented variant:
â,ê,î,ô,û,ŷ. - Backspace deletes the last letter.
Scoring
Score is calculated as:
Level difficulty × (7 − number of attempts)
Harder levels and fewer attempts produce higher scores.
| Level | Best | Worst |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | 6 | 1 |
| Foundation | 12 | 2 |
| Intermediate | 18 | 3 |
| Advanced | 24 | 4 |
Maximum daily score: 60 points (all 4 levels solved in 1 attempt).
